4 × 4 Chess

A condensed battle on a smaller board. Each side commands four pieces; a King, a Rook, a Knight, and a Pawn, arranged to mirror one another across the board.

King moves one square in any direction. Capture the opponent's King to win.

Rook slides any number of squares horizontally or vertically. Cannot jump over pieces in its path.

Knight moves in an L-shape, two squares in one direction then one to the side. The only piece that can jump over others.

Pawn moves one square forward, captures diagonally. When reaching the other side of the board it automatically gets promoted to a Rook.

No castling. No check warnings, if your King is in danger, it is your responsibility to move it.

Repeat the same position 3 times and the game ends in a draw.

Click a piece to select it. Valid moves highlight in green, capturable pieces in red.
